Megève ski resort
Megève the international symbol of the French “Art de vivre”
As a world famous tourist resort, Megève is now what the first sponsors, the Rothschild family, dreamed of: an international symbol of the “Art de vivre”.
It was in the 1920’s that the Baroness Noémie de Rothschild, decided to bet on the future of Megeve, where she settled after excessive presence of German in the Swiss resorts that she used to frequent.
Then, the baroness invested in lands, in luxury hotels. She even ordered to the architect Henry Jacques Le Même her own chalet. She wants it typical as the neighbor farms but comfortable with large openings to enjoy the view over the landscapes, a fireplace and a ski restroom. This construction is the first appearance of what is today the ski chalet, it is also the first chalet of Henry Jacques Le Même who is today famous for having ordered most of the chalets in the village.
This time changes the future of Megève which becomes a really famous ski resort and a holiday resort where you consider the entire measure of its splendor through its luxury homes.
Despite of the excessive frequentation during ski period, this village has kept its traditions, its history and its typical Savoyard architecture. The hors-drawn carriage, cobblestoned street, the church and the farms are the perfect example and give Megève such a charm.
You can also turn back time by walking on the way of “Le Calvaire” where you can find ten or so churches from 19th Century and registered as Historical Monument
Also « Queen of Culture and French Gastronomy » , the resort of Megève welcomes luxury boutiques, starred restaurants, and renowned luxury hotels ( Emmanuel Renaut chef in « Le Flocon de Sel », Julien Gatillon chef in the Restaurant 1920, Christophe Schuffenecker chef in the restaurant « La table de l’Alpaga » )
The three legendary mountains Jaillet, Rochebrune and Mont-d’Arbois, are part of the success story of the resort and we invite you to go there for hiking or for a long day hitting the slopes facing a breathtaking landscape.
With a ski area of over 400 km of slopes ( 217 slopes in total : 33 are black, 84 are red, 63 are blue and 37 are green) and more than 43 km of market out Nordic or skating slopes. Megève stands today as one of the most beautiful skiing area of Pays du Mont-Blanc and offers a large selection of activities (paragliding, helicopter touring, snow shoes, sled dog, ice skating …)
